RUSSIAN PUNK FEMINIST ACTIVISTS
Brightly coloured dresses, neon tights, brilliant balaclavas - this punk rock feminist group of young women is famous for guerrilla performances in Russia, playing their political punk rock songs. Women's rights, LGBTQI rights, feminism are top of the agenda. As is their strong opposition to Putin and the power alliance the Russian Orthodox Church.

The group shot to global notoriety following their arrest for "hooliganism" in 2012. They performed a stunt inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and was condemned by the Russian Orthodox Church as "sacrilegious". Three members of the group were convicted of "hooliganism" and sentenced. This drew much criticism and outrage in the West, and Amnesty International started a campaign to have the women labelled "prisoners of conscience". Many high profile feminists and female leaders spoke out against the Russian Government for the "heavy-handed" approach to Pussy Riot, Madonna included.
