What do you make? Tell us a bit about your creative process.
I paint mostly, but like to give myself permission to try whatever I feel like, just recently that looked like experimenting with clay and sculpting masks. My process is simple really, an idea comes, I try to capture it as a sketch ASAP (this usually happens on my IPad, using Procreate app). Then I build the sketch up, testing compositions and colour as I go. I’ll sometimes jump on Pinterest to research and reference certain motifs. When I feel the sketch is ready I transfer it onto a board and paint it. The painting is a very zen time for me. There’s a little bit of tweeking that happens along the way, but generally that’s the process in a nutshell.
What do you want people to feel when they experience your work?
Joy, wonder. I’d love to transmit the feeling that inspired me to create the thing in the first place.
What benefits do you see in being a woman in the creative community?
I see creative women now being role models to future creative women
Who are some of the women in your life that inspire or influence you the most?
The women who have taken a chance on themselves; the artists, the boss ladies, the dreamers, the ones that are walking their hero’s journeys and shining a light in the world. I’m especially in awe of the ones that balance motherhood too, how do they do it?! And because I recently heard the most fascinating podcast featuring Jewel, I’m going to drop her name in the mix, what an incredible woman and inspirational life story.
What do you love most about the festive season?
Holidays. I love to see folks taking time out from the daily grind.
