Her practice is influenced by an interest in science fiction and the attendant theme of 'world making' or 'other worlds', and she finds the not-quite-symmetrical nature of handbuilding essential to the uniqueness of each piece. With a current focus on pastel colours, her work is optimistic, distinctive, and sometimes humorous.

All of Julie's work is exclusively hand-built (no wheelwork) in her studio in Thornbury, Melbourne.
