Bec came across ceramics as she has many other creative endeavours, from drawing, to photography, print making and book binding.
She has always been curious about creative expression. However, working with clay stuck in a way the others had not. As challenging and at times frustrating as the process can be, she loves the journey as much as the destination of making ceramics.
The work Bec makea isn’t striving for perfection, the pieces bare the marks of her hands and the signs of the process by which they were made. For Bec, it’s like leaving some of the loose pencil marks you first put down still visible in the finished drawing. By not editing out these beginnings more of the story about how the work was created remains. Clay as a medium offers a vastness of learning, experimentation, direction and gathering of skills. The alchemy of glazes adds the dimension of colour, which Bec use in a painterly, unplanned way to create colourful, watery galaxies. Her application is spontaneous and generous, hinting at forms just below the surface. The surface of beautiful, functional ceramics that are made to invite everyday rituals. This collection has been inspired by the cool colours of the sea and is made to hold the things you enjoy.
